Vikarabad: Vexed with official apathy in restoring power supply, residents of Tatepally village in Peddamul mandal here collected donations and arranged a generator to supply water for households and to charge their mobile phones.

After heavy rains and gales uprooted a few trees, damaged standing crops and snapped power lines, power supply in the village was disrupted for the last three days.

The villagers lodged complaints with the electricity department to restore power supply. However, as the problem persisted, all the residents of Tatepally collected donations to arrange a diesel generator.

It is now being used to operate pumps to supply drinking water to households and sockets to charge mobile phones. Videos of women fighting to fetch water from borewell and men charging their mobiles through common sockets on Friday are going viral on social media platforms.

Following complaints from villagers, power was restored on Saturday only, reports said.

Meanwhile, farmers cultivating banana, papaya and other crops suffered losses as their standing crops got damaged due to the unseasonal rains and gales since the last couple of days.

They are appealing to the government to extend support and bail them out from the crisis.
