Kothagudem: A police constable has created ruckus under the influence of alcohol and assaulted a tribal welfare hostel staff here on Thursday.
It was said that the constable attacked and hurled invectives at the female staff of the hostel located near Sri Ramachandra Degree College in Laxmidevipalli mandal in Kothagudem district headquarters and caused panic among the students.
According to sources, the constable identified as Srinivas was posted on security duty at EVMs warehouse near the college. He went to the hostel surroundings without any reason, removed his belt and assaulted the hostel warden Anwar Pasha when he tried to stop him from abusing the female staff.
Student Federation of India (SFI) district secretary B Veerabhadram strongly condemned the constable’s action and asked Superintendent of Police B Rahith Raju to respond to the incident and take action against the said constable immediately.
When the students were prepared to protest against the constable, Laxmidevipalli SI, Ramana Reddy reached the spot and pacified them. The SI assured the students that the matter would be taken to the notice of higher officers for action against him. A complaint was lodged against the constable with local police.
