Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday virtually inaugurated power generation from Unit-1 of the 2×660 MW supercritical thermal power plant established at Udangudi in Thoothukudi district at a cost of ₹13,077 crore.

The newly established supercritical thermal power plant has been set up by the Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited.

The electricity generated from this power plant will be connected to the power grid and distributed through a 400-kV gas-insulated substation, says a release.

Through this project, the State’s power generation capacity will further increase, helping meet Tamil Nadu’s electricity demand and reducing the need to procure power from external markets. This will improve the financial position of the Electricity Board and significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the State, the release said.
