Telangana won’t allow Banakacharla project: Uttam Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad: Reiterating the State government’s opposition to the proposed Banakacharla project by the Andhra Pradesh government, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the State would not accept the project under any circumstances.

Addressing to media persons on Tuesday, he expressed concerns about the State’s water rights and the regional impact of the proposed project.

The Minister questioned Andhra Pradesh’s claim that it would utilise only water that flows into the sea. Stating that Telangana had been making all possible efforts to block the project and had already sent letters to the Godavari River Management Board and Union Minister C.R. Patil. Telangana officials had directly communicated their objections to the Centre, he added.

“We have informed the Centre about our concerns and urged it to take action against the project. We will respond appropriately at the right time,” Reddy stated.
