ACB traps Karimnagar DCMS manager, cashier

Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths trapped District Cooperative Marketing Society (DCMS) Manager Regulapati Venkateshwara Rao and Cashier S Kumaraswamy while accepting Rs 1 lakh bribe on Thursday. Venkateswara Rao is to retire in another two months. According to ACB sleuths, Venkateswara Rao and Kumarawasy demanded the bribe from a trader Kaveti Raju for sanction of paddy procurement center.

Raju entered an agreement with DCMS to run the paddy procurement center in the year 2018-19 and is still continuing it. According to norms, 50 per cent of the commission would go to theDCMS and remaining to the trader. After reduction of DCMS commission, the trader should get Rs 90.16 lakh as commission for the procurement of the paddy. Though Raju had been making rounds around the office for the release of commission, Manager delayed for various reasons.

Instead, Venkateswara Rao advised Raju to take up selling of fertilizer and get the commission of Rs 13,000 per lorry load. Raju, who got Rs 20 lakh by selling fertilizer, still should get Rs 69 lakh from the DCMS. On July 1 this year, he approached Venkateswara Rao and requested him to release the remaining commission amount of Rs 59 lakh. However, Manager demanded Rs 22 to Rs 23 lakh bribe and accepted to take Rs 15 lakh on the request. Not interested in giving bribe, the trader approached ACB, who trapped Manager and cashier while accepting Rs one lakh bribe.
