Mulugu: Police on Friday unearthed an arms dump allegedly belonging to the banned CPI Maoists at Vettevagu near Oddugudem village in Bandhala Reserve forest area of Tadwai mandal of the district.
The dump consisted of two SLR rifles, 165 rounds of ammunition and two SLR magazine pouches.
According to Superintendent of Police P Sabarish, the police received information about the CPI-Maoist arms dump on Friday morning and a team of police along with a bomb disposal squad reached the suspicious area and conducted searches. During the search, the team found SLR rifles and rounds.
It was suspected the arms and ammunition found were kept to be used to target security forces. The suspected activities of the Maoists in the area have suddenly increased and they are now attempting to reactivate their dalams in different areas, the police said.
