Hyderabad: Telangana has emerged as the leading State in soya bean procurement in the country.
At a meeting convened by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Joint Secretary Samuel Praveen Kumar reviewed the soya bean procurement progress with the agricultural secretaries from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
During the meeting, Shyamuel praised Telangana for surpassing traditional soybean-producing states like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra in procurement from farmers at the support price.
Telangana is currently conducting soybean procurement through approximately 47 centres, offering a support price of Rs.4,892. To date, the State has procured 24,252 metric tons of soyabeans worth Rs.118.64 crore from 1,464 farmers. In response to requests from public representatives, the State government has increased the procurement limit from 6.5 quintals to 10 quintals per acre.
