HYDERABAD: The Economically Backward Classes Welfare Association (EBCWA) appealed to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on the need for comprehensive policies to ensure upliftment of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the State.
In a representation to the Governor on Monday, the Association members said 90 per cent of forward caste people were living under economically distressed conditions. Due to financial crisis, many students from forward castes were unable to pursue higher education.
A dedicated EBC welfare department, EBC corporation and exclusive ministry should be established for the empowerment of EWS. The government should allocate Rs.10,000 crore in the budget for welfare of EBCs, they demanded.
All government welfare schemes being extended to SC, ST, OBC and Minority communities should also be extended to EBCs. The Telangana Assembly should pass a resolution and send the same to Central government to establish national EBC Corporation and EBC Welfare Department, EBCWA president V Ravinder Reddy demanded.
