Hyderabad: Telangana’s ESI State Services employees are staging state-wide protests against the proposed formation of an ESI Society in the state.
The move, initiated by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the central government, for formation of ESI Society has been met with strong opposition from employees who fear uncertainty in their job security and future administrative policies.
The ESI State Services currently function under the administration of Telangana State government with around 2,400 permanent employees working across 70 dispensaries, four hospitals and two diagnostics centre across the state.
The staff alleged that as the ESIC could not directly take over state services, it has repeatedly pushed for the establishment of a society to manage these services separately—a proposal that employees have been resisting for years.
Wednesday marked the ninth consecutive day of protests across state-run ESI offices. Several employee unions, including TNGOs union Central Forum, TNGOs union Hyderabad District, and ESI JAC, have extended their support to the movement, urging the government to reconsider the proposal.
The protesting employees called upon State government to take decisive action in safeguarding their interests and ensuring administrative clarity. In a statement issued here, the protesting employees emphasized that any decision must prioritize the well-being of state government employees under ESI State Services to prevent disruptions and ensure stability in public healthcare services.
