Hyderabad: As part of the special measures initiated for monitoring the Akkampalli reservoir, one of the key sources supporting drinking water supply to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and Nalgonda district, drones were deployed on Saturday.

Nalgonda District Collector Ila Tripathi and her staff visited the reservoir to assess the situation. The Collector emphasised that a multi-disciplinary team has been formed, comprising representatives from the Irrigation, Police, Revenue, Veterinary, and Water Works Departments.

This team has been tasked with investigating the issue of dead chickens being found in the reservoir.

Water samples have been sent to third-party labs for detailed analysis. Preliminary findings indicate that the chickens were discarded in a canal located nine kilometres away from the reservoir.

“To ensure there are no further incidents, we have deployed drones to monitor the reservoir and its surroundings. These drones will provide real-time data, allowing us to take immediate action if needed. We have also set up a special team from the water works department to oversee this operation,” Tripathi said.

She promised that the drinking water supply would remain unaffected, as water from the reservoir undergoes a three-stage filtration process before distribution. Additionally, water samples are being continuously tested to ensure quality and safety.
