Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday laid foundation for the Hare Krishna Movement’s Heritage Tower and announced a Rs 25-crore donation for the 400-ft-high tower to be constructed on a six-acre campus at Narsingi on Hyderabad’s outskirts at a cost of Rs 200 crore.
KCR said the Hare Krishna Movement had worked relentlessly to support the government during the Covid pandemic and other emergencies and that the organisation had maintained excellent quality of service. He also said temples, bhajans and kirtans were the best medicine for the vexing problems faced by people. “Mankind is a tiny creature. God blesses humans in many forms, through many methods. Language, sense, country and continent may be different. But worshipping God is a continuous affair since the beginning of human life till today. And it is auspicious for the well-being of human life. If a person achieves something for himself, he says that he has achieved it. When natural calamities occur and any failure happens, we blame God. When the elders pass away in our house or face some big difficulties, priests come to the house and console the family members and try to get rid of pain. A temple is a community centre. All religions connect with the temple. Religion is universal. There is nothing wrong in religion. Religious ignorance and fanaticism is a threat to us. Religion does not encourage us to make mistakes. But religious stupidity takes all human beings into a madness,’’ he said.
KCR said that religious madness prompted humans to commit inhuman acts. “There is no place for violence in any religion. [Yet] religion is the cause for violence all over the world. It is not mentioned in our Hindu religion. Lord Krishna did not say about violence. Some people are creating a lot of trouble,’’ he said.
“Hare Krishna’s support to the Telangana government is commendable. Akshaya Patra is supplying meals through ‘Annapoorna’ to schoolchildren and has provided food for the poor in Hyderabad without stopping for a single day. This is a testament to their dedication. Thank you Akshaya Patra on behalf of the people of Telangana,’’ he said.
KCR suggested that the Hare Krishna Movement also work hard to check the evil consequences of religion. “Those who sincerely believe in religion never want violence. We perform yajnas seeking universal peace,’’ he said.
“I am announcing Rs 25 crore on behalf of the state government for the construction of the temple undertaken by Hare Krishna. These will be released soon. The state government supports organisations that promote peace and spirituality,’’ he said. “If we want peace, a pleasant environment and peaceful life, it is possible through temples, mosques and churches. Peace will prevail through the prayers held there.”
The tower will be another cultural landmark for the city, said Madhu Pandit Dasa, chairman of Hare Krishna Movement. It will be able to accommodate 1,500 devotees. Its construction will be based on Kakatiya architecture to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of Telangana. The campus includes a library, auditorium, IMAX open air theatres, lecture halls and a waiting complex for devotees, and guest rooms will be part of the temple structure.
The history of Lord Krishna along with his teachings will be displayed and laser shows made available. The tower is expected to attract tourists from abroad as well.
