The Tamil Nadu Cabinet on Thursday approved the Tamil Nadu Space Industrial Policy 2025 to position the State as a hub for space innovation, high-value manufacturing and tech-driven job creation.
In July 2024 the State government released the draft Tamil Nadu Space Industrial Policy 2024. However, many changes have been made in the policy and incorporated in the Tamil Nadu Space Policy, said sources.
The Tamil Nadu Space Policy is built on three pillars — attracting investments of ₹10,000 crore in Tamil Nadu’s space sector, creating at least 10,000 high-value jobs in the sector for talented youth, and building a future-ready skilled workforce in space technologies and services, Industries Minister TRB Rajaa told newspersons after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin. The policy is a major boost to SpaceTech firms investing in TN, Rajaa added.
The policy is not just for manufacturing, but will also focus on space-tech services and downstream innovation. This will open doors for start-ups, MSMEs and large players alike.
Special incentive packages will be created for small start-ups and big companies setting up in the upcoming Space Bays – dedicated industrial zones tailored for the space industry, he said.
Sources said the policy will be applicable to both the service and manufacturing sectors, and would offer capital subsidy of up to 20 per cent.
The policy assumes significance with TN being home to many space tech start-ups and the construction of the Kulasekarapattinam spaceport in Thoothukudi district.
In the 2025-26 Tamil Nadu Budget, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu announced a ‘Space Tech Fund’ with an allocation of ₹10 crore to encourage Space-tech Startups. Additionally, a Foundation & Prototype development lab for satellite testing, space-grade qualification test facilities, incubation and skill development facilities would be set up in Chennai.
