Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called on political leaders across party lines to join forces against the Union Government’s proposed delimitation exercise.
In a tweet, Stalin said he has already written to Chief Ministers and party heads in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Odisha, and Punjab, urging them to take a firm stand against what he called an “unfair exercise.”
He has also reached out to key political parties, including the CPI(M), BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, AAP, and several regional parties such as the TDP, BRS, and Akali Dal, asking them to send senior representatives to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting scheduled for March 22, 2025, in Chennai.
Stalin described the delimitation plan as a “blatant assault on federalism”, arguing that it unfairly punishes States that have successfully implemented population control measures by reducing their representation in Parliament. “We will not allow this democratic injustice,” he said.
The proposed delimitation exercise has triggered widespread concern, especially in southern and eastern States, where stable population growth could result in fewer parliamentary seats.
