Warangal: A protest by journalists in Warangal east Assembly constituency for double bedroom houses has entered into the third day on Wednesday.
The journalists cutting across unions have started the indefinite deeksha on April 14 coinciding with Dr. BR Ambedkar jayanti by submitting a memorandum to the statue of Ambedkar. The deeksha was being staged at the double bedroom houses complex at Deshaipet.
Several political parties, people’s organisations and student organisations have extended their solidarity to the protesting journalists. CPI (ML) district leaders, BJP state executive member Dr. Vannala Venkataramana, BC JAC, BRS leader Hari Ramadevi and PDSU leader R Ranjith Kumar extended their support to the journalists.
Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Rizwana Shamim Masood, corporators Marupalla Ravi and Siddham Raju addressing the protesting journalists on Wednesday demanded the Congress government to immediately allot the double bedroom houses to all the eligible journalists.
Senior Congress leader Rajanala Srihari also took part in the deeksha extending his support to the journalists. He wanted the local ministers and the government to look into the just demand of the journalists and allot the houses at the earliest.
As part of the third day’s protest, the journalists submitted a petition to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the premises of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and later to the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at MGM Junction.
Speaking to Telangana Today, a senior journalist Ajay thanked the leaders of political parties and people’s organisations for supporting the journalists’ protest. The relay fast would continue until steps were taken to allocate double bedrooms built for journalists in Warangal east constituency, he said.
