Hyderabad: Open air gymnasiums that have been established at residential colonies and public parks across Hyderabad in the last half-a-decade, have come as a breath of fresh air for general public who have accepted these facilities with open arms.

Such spaces now serve as social hubs, places to stay fit devoid of the hefty fee of a private gym that provide free access to fitness equipment. There are no restrictions, as open air gyms have literally democratised fitness and at the same time created safe public spaces for families.

They have become community places, where families with children come and meet during evenings or early mornings, socialise a bit and exercise a lot to stay fit. Unlike indoor gyms, there is no peer pressure and judgment, as people from all walks come freely just to enjoy these public spaces.

A very popular open gym is at KBR Park, which has become a go-to destination and always remains packed. Young mothers, while their toddlers play in the park, steal a moment or two to try their hands at the gym equipment here while there are senior citizens, who are quite regular, are take their sessions rather vigorously and seriously.
