Flights in border areas face delays, cancellations due to airspace restrictions
Indian forces executed tri-service operations targeting terror camps in Pakistan
Air India has cancelled flights to various cities until further notice.
New Delhi:
Several flights connecting major cities in the border areas have been impacted due to airspace restrictions as Indian forces struck terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) and Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam attack.
All three Indian forces – Army, Navy, and Air Force – carried out their first tri-services operations since 1971, codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting terror camps and launchpads. Follow live updates here
Flightradar24, which tracks flights across the world, showed an empty airspace over Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh early this morning.
All major Indian airlines have alerted their passengers about cancellations and possible delays in departures and arrivals due to airspace restrictions. Passengers must check their flight status and plan their journey accordingly, they added.
Air India said it has cancelled flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot till noon, and diverted two international flights bound for Amritsar.
“In view of the prevailing situation, Air India has cancelled all its flights to and from the following stations – Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot – till 12 noon on 7 May, pending further updates from authorities. Two international flights en route to Amritsar are being diverted to Delhi,” the Tata-owned airline said in an online post.
Budget-carrier IndiGo said that flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, and Bikaner have been impacted due to the changing airspace conditions.
SpiceJet said departures and arrivals may be impacted by the closure of airports in Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar.
Akasa Air has also cancelled all its flights to Srinagar since the city “airport has been closed for civilian operations.”
India conducted precision strikes at nine terror camps and launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir at 1:44 am.
“A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. Altogether, nine (9) sites have been targeted,” the government said.
The strikes were focused and measured, and did not target any Pakistani military facility, it added.
The targets included locations in Bhawalpur, Muridke, Sialkot, Chakamru, Gulpur, Bhimber, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Chak Amru and Muridke are located in Pakistan, while the rest are in POK.
The action followed the cold-blooded murder of 26 civilians by terrorists with Pakistani links at a tourist hotspot in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The April 22 attack had left the world shocked and drew widespread condemnation. Justice is served, the Indian Army said after the missile strikes in Pakistan.
