The new business premium (NBPs) underwritten by life insurers grew by 8.43 per cent in April 2025 at ₹21,965 crore compared to ₹20,258 in April last year. 

According to data released by the Life Insurance Council, individual single premia grew by 4.47 per cent, to 2,690 crore, in the month under review. Individual non-single premia was almost flat at ₹5,234 crore. The focus was on first-time buyers, who accounted for 1.3 per cent of the growth in combined individual premium collections for April 2025.

In the Group policy segment, single premia grew by 12.15 per cent with annual collections at ₹13,138 crore. The Group policy category witnessed a 12.9 per cent surge in premia in the first month of the current fiscal.

The life insurance industry in India continues to make significant progress by expanding access to insurance and reaching underserved areas and segments. Life insurers added over 57,174 agents, with digitisation driving insurance penetration and providing a boost to new business premia in FY26 and beyond.
