Nalgonda honour killing case: Death sentence for one; life imprisonment for seven

NALGONDA: The Nalgonda Special Court on Monday sentenced one accused to capital punishment and awarded life imprisonment to six other accused in the sensational honour killing case of Perumalla Pranay Kumar on September 14, 2018.

One of the accused, Maruthi Rao, had died by suicide during the trial. Among the seven remaining accused, Subhash Sharma was awarded death sentence while the rest, including Asgar Ali, Abdul Bari, MA Kareem, Shravan, Shiva and MA Nizam were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Pranay had married Amrutha Varshini against the wishes of her family. Amrutha Varshini’s father Maruthi Rao bore a grudge against Pranay as he was a Dalit.
