Hyderabad: Malayalam blockbuster L2: Empuraan, the sequel to Lucifer, hit theaters on Thursday, March 28 and made a huge impact. But soon after its release, some scenes sparked controversy, especially among viewers concerned about religious and political themes.

To address the issue, Mohanlal released a statement on Sunday, March 30, promising changes to avoid hurting anyone’s sentiments. The film has now been re-edited with 17 cuts, including a name change for the villain. The updated version, which is two minutes shorter, starts screening on Monday, March 31.


Mohanlal assured fans that his films will never spread hatred toward any political or religious group. He said he values their love and trust and is committed to making meaningful cinema.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Empuraan features Mohanlal, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Manju Warrier, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sachin Khedekar, Saniya Iyappan, Sshivada Nair, Suraj Venjaramoodu, among others.
