Bhongir: A man identified as Gandhamalla Ravi was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the penthouse of Alair Congress MLA Beerla Ilaiah’s residence in Yadagirigutta town.

Ravi, who, along with his wife, was residing as a tenant in the MLA’s penthouse, was employed at the MLA’s home for several years and was suspected to have died by suicide.

According to local sources, Ravi had recently been reprimanded by the MLA. Ravi, a native of Saidapuram village, had gone home recently and had returned only two days ago after the incident.

Villagers from Saidapuram wondered why Ravi would choose to take his life at the MLA’s home instead of his residence if it was a suicide.

The body was shifted to the Bhongir Government Hospital overnight for a post-mortem. Ilaiah visited the hospital following the incident.

The Yadagirigutta police have attributed the suicide of Ravi to financial distress. The Station House Officer, in an official release, said that three years ago, Ravi had taken a home loan from a private bank but struggled to repay the installments. This led to mounting debts, both in his hometown of Saidapuram and elsewhere.

Over the past 15 days, Ravi reportedly resorted to heavy drinking and stopped working, overwhelmed by the fear of his home being seized by the bank. Just two days before the incident, bank officials had visited his residence in Saidapuram and affixed a notice regarding unpaid loan dues.

On the night of the incident, at approximately 10 pm, Ravi is said to have taken his own life. Yadagirigutta police shifted the body to the Bhongir Area Hospital for a postmortem. Based on a complaint filed by Ravi’s wife, Navitha, a case has been registered, and statements from family members have been recorded. Further investigation is on.

Meanwhile, BRS mandal president Karre Venkataiah has demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into Ravi’s death, citing several unresolved questions.

“It is unclear why Ravi felt compelled to take such an extreme step. The hurried shifting of the body to the government hospital overnight raises further doubts,” Venkataiah said in a statement.
