As tensions rise between India and Pakistan, the Maharashtra government has called for the formation of a war room at the district level and the hiring of fishing trawlers to enhance maritime security.

In addition, leaves of senior state government employees, particularly from health department and disaster management cell, have been cancelled . The government has also directed the state police and municipal bodies to be extra vigilant.

A high-level security meeting was called by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in which the Chief Secretary, the Director General of police, the Mumbai police commissioner, the Mumbai municipal commissioner and the collector participated.

The State government has directed a police cyber cell to monitor social media. Immediate action should be taken against people filming military preparation activities and broadcasting them on social media.

The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) directives issued by the Chief Minister’s Office called for mock drills to be held in every district and a coordination mechanism with hospitals during a blackout.

Considering the possibility of cyber attacks on critical government infrastructure, an immediate cyber audit was also announced. Every district collector would be provided with emergency funds.

Further, a system to provide citizens with up-to-date and accurate information will be set up. The State government has also asked municipal bodies to collaborate with housing societies to create awareness on blackouts.
