Karimnagar: A young couple, who was in love, died by suicide, after their parents opposed their marriage in Karimnagar town.

Kondaparthi Arun Kumar (24) and Nampelli Alekhya (21) were found hanging in a room in Vavilalapalli on Thursday.

According to the police, Arun from Chityalapalli of Choppadandi mandal and Alekhya from Bhupalapatnam of the same mandal were in love and decided to marry.

As both were also close relatives, Alekhya’s parents discussed the marriage proposal with Arun’s parents some time ago. However, they refused and, ever since, both families have been maintaining distance.

Recently, Alekhya’s parents fixed her marriage with another person. Upset over the elders’ decision, both decided to end their lives, police said.

On Wednesday, Alekhya came to Karimnagar informing her parents that she was going to bring her certificates from college, and went to a private hospital where Arun was working as a lab technician.

Later, both of them went to Arun’s rented room in Vavilalapalli and hanged themselves to death. People in the neighbourhood found them hanging in the morning and alerted the police.

Police shifted the bodies to hospital for a post-mortem examination. Based on a complaint lodged by Arun’s father, police registered a case and are investigating.
