A day before Holi, i.e. on Thursday, families in Secunderabad and Hyderabad participated in Holika Dahan, an important ritual that precedes Holi, when families light a large bonfire, symbolizing the burning of Holika and the triumph of good over evil.

Private event managers organised special ‘Holi Parties’ at venues ranging from marriage halls, nearby exhibition grounds to convention centres in Hyderabad, especially in Banjara Hills and Hitech-City. Such events, with entry tickets, featured huge rain dance, non-stop DJ music, dedicated tomatina setup, foam dance, water balloons, including food stalls with Holi theme décor and many more.

The residential welfare associations and cultural organizations too held Holi festivities locally by distributing Gulal, conducting dance, music activities and holding special Holi lunch.
