Hyderabad: Ajith Kumar’s new film “Good Bad Ugly” had a strong start at the box office, earning Rs 28.5 crore net across India on its first day, according to Sacnilk. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, the movie had one of the biggest openings for a Tamil film this year. It beat the first-day collections of Vijay’s Greatest of All Time (Rs 20.66 crore), Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan (Rs 14.66 crore) and Suriya’s Kanguva (Rs 8.49 crore).
Good Bad Ugly performed better than Ajith’s previous film, Vidaamuyarchi, which made Rs 26 crore on its first day. But Vidaamuyarchi dropped quickly and only made about Rs 80 crore in total. Many said the release timing affected its performance. Now, Good Bad Ugly seems to be doing well with the audience.
Still, Ajith’s best opening remains Valimai, which made Rs 31 crore on day one in 2022. That film had big action scenes and was a huge hit. Good Bad Ugly may not have reached that level yet, but it has brought Ajith back into the spotlight.
So far, in 2025, Tamil cinema has not seen a major hit. The top film was Dragon, which started with Rs 6.5 crore and later made Rs 102 crore. With good reviews and strong word-of-mouth, Good Bad Ugly may become one of the top films of the year.
The movie also stars Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Sunil, Prasanna, Priya Prakash Varrier and Tinnu Anand.
Good Bad Ugly will face some competition from the Malayalam film Bazooka, starring Mammootty. But with a strong opening, the film is expected to do well over the weekend.
