Siddipet: Party workers of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi in Gajwel on Friday had an emphatic ‘No’ to a question popped by Finance Minister T Harish Rao, who wanted to know whether they would allow Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to contest from any other constituency.
Harish Rao had come up with the question while addressing the party cadre during an Athmeeya Sammelanam of the BRS at Gajwel, after stating that no previous government in the State had managed even in 60 years the kind of development that Chandrashekhar Rao had brought about in just six years.
The Gajwel constituency, which was completely ignored by successive governments for 60 years, was now ahead of several other constituencies on multiple fronts, with several leaders from other districts now urging the Chief Minister to contest from their constituencies with the hope of getting similar development, he said.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao is addresing BRS Athmiya Sammelanam in Gajwel on Friday.
Though it was a foregone conclusion that the people of any constituency would elect Chandrashekhar Rao with a huge majority, would the party cadres in Gajwel allow him to contest from another constituency, Harish Rao asked.
With the cadre opposing this in one voice and saying ‘no’, Harish Rao said it was up to the Chief Minister and the people of the Gajwel constituency to take a call on the same.
Earlier, stating that the party was celebrating its foundation day on April 27 this year, Harish Rao said Chandrashekhar Rao had led the party from the front successfully during the Statehood movement. He was also the only man to lead a party twice successfully in elections after Telugu Desam Party founder NT Rama Rao.
Chandrashekhar Rao had proved detractors wrong by fighting and ensuring separate Statehood to Telangana and also by ensuring that Godavari water reached the parched regions of the State. Pointing out that the rest of the country was looking towards Telangana to learn its development and welfare programmes, the Minister said even the Centre, apart from several other States, was replicating Telangana’s schemes.
Chandrashekhar Rao had founded the BRS with the aim of replicating Telangana’s transformation and development across India, he added.
