Adilabad: Jinnamwar Shankar, a Deputy Executive Engineer with the Education and Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation (EWIDC) in Adilabad, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), allegedly while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor at the Minority Residential School (Girls) here on Tuesday.

ACB In-charge DSP VV Ramana Murthy said Shankar was caught red-handed taking the bribe from the contractor of the school. He had demanded Rs 2 lakh, but agreed to accept Rs 1 lakh for paying a bill of Rs 2 crore to the contractor. He has already received Rs 50,000 from the contractor who constructed the school.

The contractor then approached the ACB, who in turn laid a trap and took the engineer into custody. Shankar was produced before a special court for ACB cases in Karimnagar and remanded in judicial custody.

The ACB has asked the public to contact its toll free number, 1064, in case of any government employee asking for bribe. ACB Telangana could also be contacted through social media platforms WhatsApp (9440446106), Facebook/X (@Telangana ACB). The name and details of the victim or complainant would be kept confidential, said the officials.
