Eighth Telangana State Sailing Championships begins on Thursday

Hyderabad: The 8th Telangana State Sailing Championships, organised by the Telangana Sailing Association and hosted by the Yacht Club of Hyderabad at Hussain Sagar, began on Thursday with a record 131 entries from 15 districts competing across six categories.

Telangana’s sailing legacy continues to thrive, having produced over 60 national champions and securing approximately 275 medals in the past decade, largely due to the efforts of Suheim Sheikh, president of the Telangana Sailing Association.

This year, the event also welcomes six sailors from Haryana competing in the Open Championships.

Hyderabad’s Govardhan Pallara and Rizwan Mohammad lead the boys’ category, while sisters Lahiri and Deekshitha Komaravelly aim for gold in the Sub-Junior category.

Govardhan and Deekshitha, both top-ranked nationally, will transition to the Junior Optimist Class next year, preparing for the Asian Games trials. In the Junior category, Hyderabad’s Manya Reddy and Shravan Kathrawath are the top seeds among girls and boys, respectively, and are determined to defend their positions.
