India’s Ministry of External Affairs has described as “deranged fantasy” Pakistan’s claims that Indian Armed Forces attacked their own cities like Amritsar. India condemned Pakistan’s blatant disinformation campaign to cover its own relentless border aggression.

“Instead of owning up to its own action, Pakistan has made the preposterous and outrageous claims that Indian forces are targeting its own cities….This is is the kind of deranged fantasy, that only the Pakistani state can come up with. Perhaps they do it because they are well versed in such action as their history would,” Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, said on Friday.

According to him, Pakistan has resorted to misinformation while refusing to take ownership of its actions. In fact, he called out Pakistan’s doublespeak too.

While, Pakistan – as a part of its malicious misinformation campaign – claimed that India was targeting religious places like Nankana Sahib through a drone attack; the reality was the neighbouring nation had actually targeted religious places including Gurdwara in J&K.

Nankana Sahib district in Pakistan’s Punjab province is the birthplace of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. It is home to Gurdwara Janam Asthan, which is also called Gurdwara Nankana Sahib. It is one of the holiest sites for Sikhs and a popular pilgrimage sites.

“This (India targeting Nankana Sahib gurdwara) is again, yet another blatant lie and mode of Pakistan’s disinformation campaign. Pakistan is trying deparately to impart a communal hue to the to the situation with an internation to create a communal discord,” Misri said.

Battling Mis-Information

Apart from engaging missiles and drones from across the border, India is also battling Pakistan’s attempt to weaponise mis-information to create unrest among the masses in this side of the fence.

Press Information Bureau’s fact check unit, a GOI entity, on Friday morning, debunked all such misinformation being circulated on social media, including the one about that entry to airport being has been banned.

No such decision to ban entry of passengers to the airports has been taken by the GOI, it clarified.Apart from engaging missiles and drones from across the border, India is also battling Pakistan’s attempt to weaponise mis-information to create unrest among the masses in this side of the fence.

The fact check unit claimed that barrage of coordinated lies, misinformation and disinformation has been carried out by certain social media handles in general, and mainstream media in particular, in Pakistan with the sole objective to instill fear among the Indian masses.

This psychological warfare has been actively negated by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) over the last few weeks. It further cautioned Indian media and social media users against Pakistan’s misinformation campaign.

According to the unit, a video of a drone attack in Jalandhar was widely being circulated to create a panic among the masses. It, however, found out that it was an unrelated video of a farm fire.

The PIB also rubbished claims made by Pakistan Army of having destroyed an Indian post. It found the claim to be completely false and confirmed it to be staged upon verification, since there is no unit called “20 Raj Battalion” in the Indian Army. The video was aimed to mislead the public, and a part of a coordinated propaganda campaign, it said.

Further, an old video of an explosive attack in Lebanon in 2020 was shared on social media claiming it to be Pakistan’s retaliatory missile attack, the unit noted.

The PIB also debunked information regarding a fidayeen attack on an Army brigade in Rajouri. It found that there was no such suicide attack on any Army unit.

Interestingly, a fake confidential letter initiated by Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Gen VK Narayan was shared on social media.

The PIB fact-checked the same and found that Gen VK Narayan is not the CoAS, and revealed the letter to be completely fake.

Further, a social media post notoriously claimed that the Indian military used Ambala Airbase to attack Amritsar and its own citizens. PIB, however, found the claim to be completely baseless.
