HYDERABAD: Strange are the ways of the Congress government. On one hand, the Congress government claims that the State was reeling under debts, while on the other hand, it has spent Rs 2.39 crore on fireworks alone as part of the Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had floated tenders for the display of fireworks at Tank Bund on the eve of the Praja Vijayotsavalu, including the preparation of a concept design. Accordingly, the tender was awarded to Wizcraft Entertainment Agency Private Limited for Rs.2,39,81,435.

As part of Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu, the government organized a drone show and fireworks at Tank Bund on December 9. These events were organized as part of the concluding ceremony of the celebrations. The Telangana Thalli statue was also unveiled on the same day.

Music concerts by Rahul Sipligunj on December 8 and SS Thaman on December 9 were conducted as part of the closing ceremonies of the Vijayotsavalu, commemorating the first anniversary of the Congress government in Telangana.

However, the Congress government’s expenditure in organizing the events is drawing severe criticism from different sections.

Entrepreneur Nayini Anurag Reddy said the Congress government spent Rs.2.39 crore on fireworks for the so-called Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu. Imagine how many hundreds of crores might have been spent in the name of celebrations, he asked.

“They claim they don’t have funds for Rythu Bandhu but they are ready to spend hundreds of crores on celebrations,” Anurag Reddy pointed out.
