Congress leadership’s neglect of Lagacherla irks farmers

Sangareddy: The complete neglect by the Congress party of the struggles of farmers in Lagacherla has irked the local populace, who point out that none of the State leaders of the Congress have visited the village, nor the farmers who were arrested after last week’s untoward incidents. While Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy leads the list with him ignoring the incidents despite Lagacherla being in his home constituency of Kodangal, even Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B Mahesh Kumar Goud who visited Sangareddy on Monday did not consider meeting the 21 farmers who have been lodged in the Central Jail in Sangareddy.

At a time when every other political party, civil rights organisations and tribal rights organisations were sending their leaders to Lagacherla to listen to the voices of the farmers, neither the TPCC President nor any other top Congress leader has made an effort to listen to the voices of farmers. On the other hand, the Congress, when National ST Commission member Jatothu Hussain Nayak visited the State on Monday, sent its Dornakal MLA Ramchander Naik along with MP Balram Naik and MLA Balu Naik to complain against the farmers.

On the other hand, even after allegations of Congress leaders such as Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s brother A Tirupathi Reddy, Shekar and other Congress leaders threatening Lagacherla farmers, the TPCC has not initiated any action so far.

The TPCC president, who participated in a party cadre meeting in Sangareddy town on Monday, did not visit the Sangareddy jail even as BJP MPs Etala Rajendar, DK Aruna and National ST Commission Chairman Jatothu Hussain Nayak visited the jail and spoke to the Lagacherla farmers. Goud did not even mention about the Lagacherla incident in his speech though the jail was just a stone’s throw away from his meeting venue.

A few days ago, BRS working president KT Rama Rao and other BRS leaders had also met the farmers in Sangareddy jail. The BRS leadership has also been fighting on behalf of the farmers guiding them and supporting them in ensuring that their plight got national attention.
