The Centre has released ₹4,285 crore for the construction of Amaravati, the Greenfield capital of Andhra Pradesh. The amount was released as an advance from the funds granted by the World Bank and Asian Development Bank to the Andhra Pradesh Government ( ₹3535 crore) and the Centre’s share of ₹750 crore, according official sources.

The funds were released following a request from the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), Andhra Pradesh in view of the scheduled commencement of the construction works of Amaravati.

According to State Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P Narayana, the estimated cost of construction of Amaravati was ₹54,721 crore which will be completed before 2028.

Two main promises

Completion of Amaravati and Polavaram Project were two main promises made by the ruling NDA Alliance before the State assembly elections held last year.

Last month, CRDA approved 59 tenders for various works worth ₹37,702 crore in Amaravati. The State Cabinet also approved the same in its meeting held on March 17. Land allotment was also approved to 31 organisations to set up their offices in the capital region.

The construction works are likely to resume very soon and the state Government is planning to invite Prime Minister Modi to formally re-launch the construction which was halted midway for five years during the YSR Congress Party Government led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during 2019-24.
