Hyderabad: Come the New Year, and the BRS is all set to focus on fortifying itself from grassroots to the State level. Party working president KT Rama Rao said efforts were already on in this regard with numerous activities including a party membership drive, training programmes and others in the pipeline over the next few months.
“The election of the party president also will be held, besides appointing various internal committees from the booth level to the State level. The party’s foundation day will be celebrated, while decisions on teachers and graduates MLC elections will be taken based on notifications,” he stated. He disclosed that party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao was in good health and would step out at the appropriate time.
In an informal interaction with the media at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Rama Rao charged the government with accumulating Rs 1.39 lakh crore in debt within a year without initiating any major projects. “A State with a surplus budget has now plunged into debt,” he said, alleging that borrowed funds were being sent to Delhi without initiating development programmes.
The BRS working president stated that the Congress government was operating on the “3D formula” of Distraction, Destruction, and Diversion. He also criticised the Chief Minister for prioritising personal gains over public welfare. “Revanth Reddy’s government works for his son-in-law and brother-in-law, but not the people of Telangana,” he said.
Despite complaints from the BRS, he said the BJP-led union government remained silent on scams like the Civil Supplies and AMRUT indicating complicity. He questioned why that the Enforcement Directorate which was being aggressive in pursuing a case against him, remained silent about raids on properties of Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
Rama Rao dismissed Revanth Reddy’s remarks on the alleged stampede at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad as an attempt to divert attention from pressing issues. “Instead of settling scores with the film industry, the government should address the tragic deaths of students in Gurukul schools, auto drivers, and farmers. The government should pay Rs 25 lakh ex gratia to each affected family,” he demanded.
