BRS MLCs stage protest against rising debts in Telangana Council

Hyderabad: BRS MLCs staged a protest on the Legislative Council premises on Friday, slamming the Congress government for massive borrowings with no visible development. Holding placards that read “Debt is huge, development is zero” and raising slogans against the Congress government, they questioned the government’s poor handling of public funds.

The MLCs demanded answers on how many women received Rs 2,500, how many young women were given scooties, how many brides got one tola gold, and how many elderly received Rs 4,000 pensions – all electoral promises, out of the Rs 1.58 lakh crore debts raised by the Congress government over the past 15 months.

Speaking on the occasion, BRS MLC K Kavitha criticised the Congress government for reckless borrowing, stating that in just 15 months, it has taken Rs 1.58 lakh crore in loans, while the BRS government borrowed Rs 4.17 lakh crore over nine and half years. She said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy misled people by blaming former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for the debts. She demanded that the Congress government to release a white paper on debt and expenditure.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader in the Council S Madhusudana Chari condemned the cancellation of the Question Hour, stating that the government is avoiding discussions on public issues. He charged the ruling party with rushing bills without debate and reducing working hours. He asserted that BRS will take the fight to the people.
