Hyderabad: Upping the ante in its fight against the Congress, the BRS filed two petitions in the Supreme Court on Thursday, seeking directions for disqualification of 10 MLAs who defected from the party to the Congress. The petitions were filed after senior BRS leader T Harish Rao, who went to New Delhi on Wednesday evening, held final discussions with a legal team and decided to proceed with filing of the SLP and the writ petition.
While a writ petition was filed seeking directions on seven of its MLAs – Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, Sanjay Kumar, Krishnamohan Reddy, Mahipal Reddy, Prakash Goud, and Arekapudi Gandhi, a special leave petition was filed on behalf of the party seeking directions with respect to the defection from BRS to Congress of Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkatrao, and Kadiyam Srihari.
In its petitions, the BRS stated that despite the High Court issuing orders to the Speaker for taking decision on disqualification of the turncoat MLAs, no action was taken even after six months. Citing the Kesham Meghachandra case, the advocates appearing on behalf of the BRS appealed to the apex court to issue directions to the Speaker to decide on the complaints against the defected MLAs within four weeks.
