Kothagudem: Around 200 quintals of ‘muthyala talambralu’ have been prepared for the Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy’s celestial wedding to be celebrated at Bhadrachalam on Sunday.
Of the many attractions of the Sri Rama Navami Brahmotsavams at the Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Devasthanam, the ‘muthyala talambralu’, consisting of pearls, holds a special significance for devotees.
The preparation of ‘talambralu began on ‘Phalguna Pournami’, the day Holi is celebrated, with a large number of devotees from Bhadrachalam and neighbouring villages in Andhra Pradesh, besides volunteers of the temple, taking part by beating turmeric.
The deep red coloured talambralu prepared adding ‘Gulal’ to rice to gives the bright red colour. The other ingredients mixed with rice are turmeric, kumkuma, scent, rose water, ghee and vegetable oil.
According to temple executive officer L Ramadevi, 200 quintals of talambralu has been prepared for distribution to devotees, of which 160 quintals would be distributed free of cost. Pearls weighing 100 kg are used to prepare muthyala talambralu.
Nearly 1.50 lakh muthyala talambralu packets, with one pearl in each packet, have been prepared. These will be sold to devotees, who placed orders for them, while 1 lakh packets have been prepared for distribution to VVIPs and individuals with the protocol.
The talambralu would be dispatched to devotees through RTC cargo and postal services in AP and Telangana besides selling them at the temple counters. One packet of Mutyala talambralu costs Rs 60 including postal/courier charges.
