Hyderabad: The surgeons at Apollo Hospitals Jubilee Hills on Thursday announced successful completion of an allograft tendon (Achilles tendon) augmentation for lower trapezius transfer on a 58-year-old active individual, performed by Shoulder Surgeon, Dr Prashant Meshram.
The patient had been living with chronic pain and significant weakness in his right shoulder for over six months following a fall.
Dr Meshram and his team performed an arthroscopic-assisted lower trapezius transfer, carefully augmented with an Achilles tendon allograft.
The reconstruction involved biceps tendon rerouting and subscapularis tendon repair, collectively aiming to restore shoulder mechanics and prevent the progression of arthritis, a press release said.
Post-operative imaging showed reversal of superior head migration, a critical indicator of restored joint alignment and function, the release added.
