Use jammers to block mobile signals, deploy surveillance cameras to keep an eye on guests and those coming to the venue

Hyderabad: Resorts and private farmhouses on the outskirts of Hyderabad are fast turning into secret party dens for elite groups including celebrities, politicians and wealthy businesspersons where illegal liquor and drug abuse is allegedly becoming rampant.
Under the guise of private celebrations, birthday parties and after-events, these luxurious venues in areas including Shankarpally, Moinabad, Chevella, Shadnagar, Shamirpet and Shamshabad are being rented out for rave parties by their management.
These venues, mostly with high boundary walls, tight private security, and secluded locations far from the urban eye, are providing a perfect cover for organisers to conduct their activities, until being raided by local police.
According to sources in the police and excise departments, several recent raids have exposed the darker side of the city’s nightlife. Narcotic substances such as MDMA, LSD, marijuana and cocaine are reportedly being trafficked into these parties, mostly sourced through city-based drug networks or peddlers connected to interstate cartels.
“Usually, these parties are organised for closed groups and only through invitation. The hosts and management ensure no outsiders are allowed or have any knowledge of what is going on,” said a senior excise official. There have been multiple instances where liquor without permits, including foreign brands, was found in large quantities, the official said.
Despite multiple crackdowns in recent months, including high-profile busts involving actors, singers, musicians and businessmen, enforcement agencies allege that the parties are only becoming more discreet and tech-enabled.
It is learnt that some organisers now hire bouncers to prevent entry of law enforcement personnel, use jammers to block mobile signals, and deploy surveillance cameras to keep an eye on guests and those coming to the venue.
Often, the local police or excise department officials raid these premises only after a tip-off or when local residents often complain of loud music, suspicious vehicle movements, and increased security around these properties during weekends.
“We regularly raid resorts and farmhouses and there is surveillance on them. Strict action is being taken against the venue owners for allowing illegal activities, including revoking licences and booking them under the NDPS Act where applicable,” said a senior police official from Chevella.
