Miss World Pageant kicks off to a glamours start in Hyd with a tinge of ethnic Telangana culture

The 72nd Miss World World Competition has taken off to a colourful start with all glitz and glamour in Hyderabad on Saturday and will continue for next three weeks.

The inaugural ceremony held in Gachibowli Stadium here enthralled the participants from 120 countries and scores of audience with ethnic Telangana culture featuring a dazzling performance of Perini dance originated in Telangana about 1000 years ago.T

The tribal dance forms of the State including the Lambad and Kammu Koya brought the spotlight on the ancient cultural exuberance of the State. 

The competitive rounds of the event, which offers a fusion of glitz and glamour laced with Telangana culture, will commence on May 20 with a Continental Finale at T-Hub which will be followed by the Talent Finale on May 22. A key component of the Miss World Festival, the Top Model Fashion Finale, is slated for May 24. 

After the beauty with a purpose fete on May 26, the competition will close with the grand finale at Hitex on May 31 in which the new Miss World will be crowned. On June 2, the Telangana State Formation Day, the Chief Minister will host a high tea for the team. 

According to official information, the cost of the event is pegged at ₹52 crore half of which will be borne by the organisers, the Miss World Organisation. The State government is expected to spend ₹6 crore and remaining funds will be sourced from the sponsors.

The pageant did kick off a political row as well with the members of the Opposition Bharata Rashtra Samithi demanding the cancellation of the event in the wake of India-Pakistan tensions across the border. “Its a great relief to learn about the immediate cease-fire and the event will now go on without any hassles,’‘ said a senior government official.
