Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A tiger died, while another tiger sustained injuries when two tigers clashed with a resident tiger over territory in Ramdegi forests in Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve of Chandrapur district on Tuesday.
Forest officials said that a tiger named Brahma died when it fought with another tiger called Chota Matka residing in the territory. Chota Matka received minor injuries in the clash. The carcass of Brahma was recovered from where the fight between the two tigers took place. It was disposed of as per protocol of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
Brahma, along with another tiger, Veerabhadra, was trying to claim the territory from Chota Matka and his female companion, Nayanthara, for quite a long time. Both Chota Matka and Nayanthara were enthralling visitors to the reserve with regular sightings.
The officials said that Chota Matka had already killed two tigers named Bhajrang and Mogli for trying to enter its territory recently, displaying its dominance over the landscape. They were unable to decode the behavior of the killer tiger.
Meanwhile, wildlife experts said territorial fights between tigers was not a healthy sign in a reserve. They said that the tigers were forced to indulge in territorial fights due to loss of habitat caused by shrinking forest cover.
