Hyderabad: Legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja has issued a legal notice to Mythri Movie Makers, alleging unauthorised use of his iconic songs in the recently released film Good Bad Ugly, starring Ajith Kumar.
In the notice, Ilaiyaraaja claims that three of his compositions — “Otha Roobaiyum Tharen” from “Nattupura Paattu,” “Ilamai Idho Idho” from “Sakalakala Vallavan,” and “En Jodi Manja Kuruvi” from “Vikram” — were used in the film without his consent or payment of royalty.
Citing Sections 19(9) and 19(10) of the Copyright Act, the veteran composer asserted his legal right to receive royalties for his work, even if the producers have obtained rights from record labels.
“As the author and composer, I am entitled to fair compensation,” the notice read.
Ilaiyaraaja has demanded a payment of Rs. 5 crore towards unpaid royalties, damages, and legal expenses, and has warned of further legal action if the issue is not resolved promptly.
The production house is yet to issue an official response. The development has sparked a debate on music rights and fair compensation for creators in the Indian film industry.
