Taking a step towards its green energy commitments, the Andhra Pradesh Government, which has partnered with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries division, Reliance New Energy Ltd, on Wednesday saw the laying of foundation to set up 500 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants across Andhra Pradesh.
The state-of-the-art plant, spanning 475 acres, is being developed with an investment of ₹139 crore and will have a production capacity of 100 tonne. The total investment is estimated to be to the tune of ₹65,000 crore with potential of 2.5 lakh jobs over five years with each plant having a capacity of 22 tonne per day and generating employment for 500 individuals.
Additionally, the project will utilise wasteland for energy plantations, promoting sustainable agricultural development. Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and IT, Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone for the first Integrated CBG plant on Wednesday in Prakasam district.
The state government has introduced policy incentives, streamlined land allotments, and regulatory approvals to encourage clean energy investments. Additionally, the Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP) initiative is being integrated with bio-energy production, ensuring efficient utilization of agricultural residues and organic waste to produce clean fuel.
