Hyderabad: People, particularly families travel a lot during the summer season as schools will be closed and working professionals take leave briefly from offices. Therefore, in view of the passenger rush, the South Central Railway (SCR) is planning to run nearly 2,000 special trains for summer travellers this year.

These trains would operate at full capacity in all major and busiest routes during the summer. Depending on demand, the services may be increased during the season between March and June and beyond.

Among the busiest routes in the summer is the one which is connecting Telangana with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Similarly, there is considerable traffic between Telangana and Odisha and West Bengal during the summer season. To address this, SCR is planning to run reserved and unreserved special trains from Hyderabad bound for Santragachi, Nagarsol, and Danapur, stopping at all major stations along the route.

SCR ran over 2,000 special trains in April, May and June 2024. It also introduced unreserved trains to cope with the passenger demand later. This helped in transporting additional 4.65 lakhs passengers while generating Rs 40 crore in revenue.

Meanwhile, unlike additional charges being collected in special trains arranged for festivals like Dussehra and Sankranti, passengers request railway authorities not to hike the ticket fare for summer special trains. Passengers say that while it is good to arrange additional trains for passengers in summer, it is not reasonable to charge additional charges on tickets.

Meanwhile, railway officials have stated that special trains will be run from Secunderabad, Kacheguda, Hyderabad, Lingampalli and Charlapalli railway stations. They requested rail users to plan their travel accordingly.
