The extension of Metro Rail from Chennai airport to Kilambakkam bus trminal integrated with the elevated road will cost ₹9,335 crores (including elevated road), according to a detailed project report (DPR). The 15.46 km stretch will have 13 elevated stations.
The DPR was submitted on Friday by MA Siddique, Managing Director, Chennai Metro Rail Ltd to K Gopal, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Special Initiatives, Tamil Nadu.
The DPR submitted earlier has been revised based on the State government’s direction to provide for the integrated metro rail construction and elevated roads.
As per revised DPR, Metro corridor is proposed at level-2 and elevated road at level-1. This will provide the seamless road & Metro Rail Connectivity to Kilambakkam Bus terminal. Intermediate ramps are proposed near Tambaram for Connectivity to ORR. This elevated road will land directly inside kilambakkam Bus Stand and will have provision for extension to Chengalpattu, says a release.
The release said that the proposed extension will pass through Pallavaram, Chrompet, Tambaram, Perungalathur and Vandalur, thus which will provide connectivity to the major transport hubs – Kilambakkam Bus terminal, Airport and Tambaram Railway station.
