Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has raised concern over the sharp decline in groundwater levels across Telangana, attributing it to the negligence of the Congress government. He stated that within just four months, the groundwater level had dropped by two metres, affecting 32 of 33 districts in the State.
In a post on X, Rama Rao said during former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao‘s tenure, Telangana witnessed the highest groundwater rise in the country, with even seasonal drylands turning into water-rich zones. In contrast, he said, paddy fields were now drying up under the Congress rule.
The BRS working president blamed the alleged mismanagement of irrigation projects, particularly the neglect of the Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation schemes, for the crisis. He charged the Congress government with prioritising political vendetta over the welfare of farmers, leading to severe water shortage in agricultural areas.
Urging people to take note of the worsening situation, he called on Telangana to stand up and protect its hard-earned irrigation progress.
