Techie turns drug peddler, nabbed with MDMA in Sangareddy


Sangareddy: A software engineer, who was allegedly addicted to liquor and turned into a drug peddler to earn money by supplying drugs to his friends and other customers, was nabbed here on Monday.

According to the police, based on a tip-off, Excise officials caught Harjot Singh (35), who was allegedly smuggling MDMA from Pune to Hyderabad. He was nabbed on the NH-65 at the Malkapur flyover near Sangareddy. Excise officials seized MDMA worth Rs 21.06 lakh, according to Assistant Excise Superintendent K Srinivas Rao.


According to officials, Harjot Singh, a native of Jammu & Kashmir, was working as a software engineer in Hyderabad for the last few years. Singh, who was addicted to drugs as well, had found it tough to meet his needs with his salary and decided to venture into drug smuggling. Singh used to sell drugs to his colleagues and other customers, officials said.

Singh, who went to Pune to procure the drug, was on his way back to Hyderabad when Excise officials nabbed him. He was being produced before court, they said.
