Sangareddy: The fallout between United Breweries Limited (UBL) and Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL) rendered 1,500 workers of UBL unemployed, as the two units of UBL located near Sangareddy announced a layoff.
Following the fallout, UBL, which has been producing Kingfisher and Heineken beers, stopped production as they seized the supply of these two beers. The employees staged a protest at Sangareddy collectorate on Friday under the leadership of CITU and demanded their immediate reinstatement.
Speaking on the occasion, CPI (M) leader Chukka Ramulu said that another 2,000 workers, dependent indirectly on the company operations, had also lost employment as UBL stopped production.
Demanding the UBL to start production with immediate effect, Ramulu asked the Congress government to sort out the issues with UBL for the benefit of employees. He said that the layoff was announced in violation of the Industrial Disputes Act.
The CPI (M) leader demanded Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to ensure the pending bills were released to UBL so that it would start the operations. He further said that the TGBCL was paying just Rs 25 to Rs 30 per beer to UBL while it is being sold at Rs 150 to Rs 160 in the open market.
Ramulu said that UBL was claiming that the price, they were getting from TGBCL, was not profitable for them. While the government moves had rendered thousands unemployed here, he said the Chief Minister was claiming that his government working relentlessly to get investments and new industries to Telangana.
Ramlu said that CITU would build a massive moment supporting the UBL workers across the State until they get justice. He demanded the UBL to do their part to sort out the issues as they achieved massive profits after setting the industry here.
