Mancherial: A BJP leader, Mettupalli Jayarama Rao, was assaulted, allegedly by henchmen of Jaganmohan Rao, a follower of local MLA K Premsagar Rao in a mutton market here on Wednesday.
Jayarama Rao’s wife Laxmi lodged a complaint with police, alleging that three henchmen of Jaganmohan Rao picked up an argument with her husband and then thrashed him. She further accused them of threatening to kill him.
In the complaint, Laxmi said that her husband was targeted by Jaganmohan Rao for submitting a complaint against construction of a drainage in Rallapet in the town. She charged that Rao nursed a grudge against Jayarama Rao and tried to murder him with the help of his henchmen.
Meanwhile, former MLA N Diwakar Rao visited Jayarama Rao in the hospital and condemned the attack. He alleged that the police officials were becoming mute spectators even as victims lodged complaints against the assaulters. He further alleged that Premsagar Rao was encouraging hooliganism and gang wars.
