Khammam: The BRS ranks staged a protest against the anti-farmer attitude of the Congress government in Khammam on Tuesday following a call given by the party working president KT Rama Rao.
They presented a petition to the statue of BR Ambedkar asking the government to change its attitude towards the farmers and to ensure justice to the tribal farmers of Lagacharla. The protestors shouted slogans against handcuffing a Lagacharla farmer while he was being taken to hospital for treatment.
Former MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah and the party city president Pagadala Nagaraju strongly condemned the government’s anti-farmer policies. They demanded the government to withdraw the illegal cases registered against the farmers and release them immediately unconditionally.
The ex-MLA warned that if the Congress government does not stop harassing farmers the BRS party would take up agitations on behalf of the tribal farmers. It was sad that the farmers who staged protests to protect their lands were arrested and subjected third-degree torture, he said.
BRS corporators Dade Amrita, Maqbul, Palla Rose Leena, Danda Jyoti Ayyappa Reddy, Burri Venkat, Mateti Nageswarao, Kannam Prasanna, the party district minority wing president Tajuddin, Telangana activist Bommera Rammurthy and others were present.
