Hyderabad: In an unfortunate incident, an elderly widower lost his life due to electrocution from an electric rice cooker at his house in Vikarabad town, Telangana on Saturday night.

The accident occurred in Gandhi Colony, of Vikarabad town the victim Someshwar, (82), stayed. He had married away his three daughters and his spouse passed away two years ago. Since then, Someshwar was staying alone in the house and fending himself by cooking food daily.


On Saturday night, the man put on the electric rice cooker to prepare food. “The man suffered a current shock and collapsed in the house. He suffered extensive burns and died before help could reach him,” said Vikarabad sub inspector, N Srinivas.

The neighbours grew suspicious on Sunday morning, after Someshwar did not come out of the house and the door bolted from inside. After informing his daughter about it over phone, the local people broke open the door and found the man lying dead.

The body was shifted to the government hospital for post-mortem. A case is registered.
