The Bharat Rashtra Samithi led by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday took its battle to Nagpur, the RSS headquarters. After inaugurating the BRS office in Nagpur, he addressed a public meeting giving a clarion call to vote for ‘kisan sarkar’ at the Centre and Maharashtra.
KCR as he is popularly addressed inaugurated a state-of-the-art office at Nagpur in the Vidarbha region. Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra, happens to be the home town of Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
“Today we have a BRS office in Nagpur. Soon, we will open offices in Aurangabad, Pune and Mumbai,” said KCR, adding that BRS will also make its mark in several other states.
Several local leaders and workers led by former BJP MLA from Tumsar in Bhandara district Charan Waghmare joined BRS in the presence of K Chandrashekhar Rao in Nagpur. It included zila parishad members, and sarpanches from Bhandara district.
Under the BRS party, KCR has embarked on an ambitious political agenda to consolidate his own base by pitching agriculture issues and taking up the cause of farmers. Much to the surprise of state political parties, his rallies held in Nanded in the state’s Marathwada region drew a massive crowd.
“Maharashtra can lead in ushering great transformation in India, but unfortunately, it also records highest farmer suicides,” KCR said. “Look at what’s happening currently in Maharashtra – leaders are busy calling each other names and bickering. Where is the concern for the poor, farmers, dalits, tribals?” he said.
He said that in Telangana “my government gave free electricity and water to farmers. We gave Rs 1,000 per acres investment funds to farmers. The initiatives helped farmers to do sustainable farming and tackle farmers suicide”.
“Maharashtra is a state where Krishna, Godavari, Pranhita, Mula, Wainganga et al flow. Yet, farmers are deprived of access to water. Similarly, Maharashtra has maximum coal resources but farmers are deprived of power. They work at night,” he said, adding that there is no water shortage in the country and not even 50 per cent of rain water is utilised.
According to KCR, “In the last seven decades all major parties have ruled state and centre, but nobody has been able to look after farmers. It is time farmers show their might.”
The Telangana model, he claimed, has changed farmers’ lives for good. The state has surpassed the most prosperous state Punjab in agriculture. Of the total paddy cultivation on 94 lakh acres in the country, Telangana accounts for 56 lakh acres, he said.
KCR’s party has promised that if the BRS government is voted to power in Maharashtra, “every household will get water through a tap in five years”.

State BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, “Every party has the right to expand its organisation anywhere in the country. We wish them well. BRS will not impact Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra. We are on strong footing.” Nobody from BJP has joined BRS, he added.
However, with KCRs visit to Nagpur, BRS put up party flags and hoardings across the city. The orange city as Nagpur is known, turned pink with their party flags and banners.
